About my english courses

My last English classes were at school seven years ago because in my previous career I didn't take an English course. In this way I must admit that catching up with the grammatical parts of English took me by surprise, I guess I was not prepared, but I try!

The classes surprised me a lot, but in a good way. In my old school we only dedicated ourselves to listening for a while and we only had a couple of texts. There wasn't much of a dynamic, but at this university it's the opposite.

I like the way the course is run using the technological tools and the dynamism, for example, blogging and being able to share a little bit of ourselves is also a good learning technique. I found it quite creative, and it makes us know things about the people with who we share the course.

My contact with English in my life is limited to watching strange movies that are often not subtitled, besides, I do not share with people who speak English, so music and the audio-visual area are my greatest contact with this language. I think what I find most difficult about English is not understanding it, but clearly there are things that are out of my knowledge, but perhaps speaking it or elaborating an answer in an unexpected way is difficult for me. So, I would like to work on this part to be able to communicate more fluently in other contexts. I also think that I need to practice grammar, which I am very rusty because I haven't studied it for so long.

My Study Programme

The anthropology study programme of the University of Chile has a big variety of courses that you can take according to your interests. The curriculum is very attractive and complete, this is one of the things that attracted me to study at this university. Maybe the changes I would make with respect to the anthropology career would be to generate practical courses where students can develop their skills and can be oriented when they are making the decision to choose one of the three more important courses that the career has. Which are: physical anthropology, social anthropology and archeology.

Also, if I could modify the modality of the classes, I think I would use a system in which there would not be two modules of a single subject. Currently we have one course per day that lasts two modules. So, this means being in a classroom for 3 hours, which is very mentally exhausting and monotonous. In fact, I once read an article that said that to have a better learning experience classes should last a maximum of 45 minutes, what do you think about this?

In relation to infrastructure, although the campus of the University of Chile is quite large, the library for Social Sciences is quite small for the number of students. I would create a space large enough as a building only intended to be used as a library to be able to spend long sessions of study there.

The baroque era

If I could travel in time I would like to go to the baroque era in Europe because I will know how the society behaved in that time. Also, I would love to have a conversation with all the intellectuals that maybe we don’t know. I would love visit and live in the beautiful castles of all Europe. Can you imagine what it would walk for the secrets tunnels and cross the city for them? That would be amazing! I think all past eras have their charms and left us a singular beauty we can romanticize but, in my opinion, I don’t like stayed there for a long time, just the time necessary for know the context of the big pieces of art, the theories and visit the places that disappear with the modernism.

Why wouldn’t I have stayed there for a long time? Because I don’t eat meat so how would I explain that to the people of that era? That would be weird for them and maybe they would think that I am a witch. And well, I wouldn’t leave my dog alone for a long time, that probably break my heart.

Anyway, I won't miss the opportunity to travel back in time to fall in love with that baroque era, but love is not forever. What do you think?

My dream job

I would like work making documentaries because I would like have access to the different ways of life in all the world. I would like to understand the reason why we all are so similar and, at the same time, so unique as societies. I would love to have the possibility to travel around the world trying catch the different cultures and their thoughts. Also learn about their habits and internalize, using my anthropology career, for take all this experiences and content to tell others making a video, audio, records, etc. about the topics that I would find.

I think to make this job I have to finish my career, and then, I would like to take a course of editing to have the necessary skills to be able to edit my own videos like a professional. I think that to make this type of job you must have desire of knowledge, I mean, I’ll have to always want to investigate and meet new people. Also I think that is very important know how communicate with all the persons that I could find for make a connection with them. The sense of adventure, be risky and take the chances is fundamental.

The magic of the Chiloe Island

In the 2019 I went to backpacking to the Chiloe Island. I did this travel with four friend and my girlfriend. First, we took an airplane to Puerto Montt and then we started the route. We were there for four weeks and that was amazing! We host in camping’s, hostels and sometimes we stayed near of the beach to appreciate the beautiful sunset. One day we went to the National Island Park and something really weird happened… we got lost inside of the littles trails and we couldn’t get out, we were walking in circles, over and over, it was crazy! Also, we took a boat, we ate typical food of the zone (Chiloe have a delicious gastronomy!) and, of course, we visited the most iconic places of the region. I was bringing my film camera and the developed was great!  See all the places of Chiloe from an old film photo is a magic thing!

Also, we met kind people that so many times helped us, they brought us in their cars of the one side to other and they also bought food for me and my friends. I think that the best part of the travel was that I could share all the experiences with the people I love and always are by my side.

Spain

If I had money, I would spent it on a trip around the world, but specially I would love to visit Spain because this country have so many hiddens and secrets places in their cities. For example, if I were walking in Barcelona I would probably go to the Jardines Ca n' Altimir. This place is quite, beautiful, old and with so much history that you can see in their columns of roman style. I would also like to go to Guggenheim museum in Bilbao because the architecture is amazing and give to the city a stunning view in the night when the ligths turns on.

Hoppefully, I would like to go to Guakame restourant if I visited Valencia for the reason that is vegan and they have a gourment menu and interesting environment to do some selfies.

In another hand, if I had the oportunitty I would study a master degree in anthropology in Barcelona because I think this could be good for my carreer and also for get to know more about the culture and people of Spain.
